Safety: Coach certification

All CYO coaches satisfy background checks and several certifications at the beginning of their coaching career, and others for every season they volunteer. This includes:

• Background check (conducted by CYO)
• National Federation of State High Schools (NFHS) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) joint program in Concussion training
• American Sport Education Program (ASEP) Coaching Essentials course
• Archdiocese of Portland’s “Called to Protect” program, administered by CYO
